Join our team as an Echocardiography Technician, where your expertise in cardiovascular ultrasound technology will be essential in the early and accurate detection of complex cardiac issues. Your meticulous attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality diagnostic images are invaluable contributions to our comprehensive cardiac care program, directly influencing early diagnosis and effective treatment planning.

Job Description

As an Echocardiography Technician, you will be responsible for independently performing a full range of non-invasive echocardiographic studies, including 2D, 3D, M-Mode, Doppler, and specialized stress and contrast echo studies. You will operate advanced ultrasound equipment to capture detailed images of the heart, its valves, and associated major vessels. Your technical skill and interpretive insight are critical in providing cardiologists with the precise diagnostic information needed to manage patient care effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Echocardiography Procedures: Independently perform and record high-quality, technically optimal adult and potentially pediatric transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), stress echocardiograms (pharmacological and exercise), and contrast studies.

  • Image Acquisition and Optimization: Systematically acquire comprehensive and diagnostically relevant images, optimizing technical settings (gain, depth, focus, etc.) to ensure accurate visualization of cardiac structures and blood flow dynamics.

  • Data Measurement and Analysis: Perform precise quantitative measurements and calculations from acquired images and Doppler data (e.g., valve gradients, ejection fraction, chamber size) according to established protocols and current professional guidelines.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Accurately document all procedural details, patient history, and initial technical findings for physician review, ensuring all data is meticulously recorded in the patient's electronic health record (EHR) and the cardiology reporting system.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, calibration checks, and quality control of the ultrasound equipment and transducers to ensure optimal performance and image quality.

  • Patient Care and Safety: Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the procedure, explaining the process clearly and adhering to strict infection control and privacy protocols.

  • Collaboration: Communicate effectively with cardiologists and other healthcare providers regarding preliminary findings, especially critical or emergent results, to facilitate timely patient management decisions.

  • Quality Assurance: Participate in departmental quality assurance programs, case reviews, and continuing education activities to maintain professional certification and stay current with evolving echocardiography techniques and guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Education: Completion of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology or Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, specializing in Echocardiography.

  • Certification: Current registration/certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or equivalent credential from a recognized certifying body (e.g., ARDMS, CCI).

  • Experience: Proven experience independently performing and analyzing a high volume of complex TTEs; experience with TEE and stress echo is highly preferred.

  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and hemodynamics, as applied to ultrasound imaging principles and techniques.

  • Accuracy and Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and precision in image acquisition, measurement, and data analysis is essential.

  • Equipment Mastery: Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting modern echocardiography systems and associated reporting software.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and patient rapport skills, with the ability to handle sensitive patient information and provide reassurance during procedures.

  • Adaptability: Willingness to work in a fast-paced clinical environment and adapt to a varied caseload and schedule.

Your dedicated expertise as an Echocardiography Technician is crucial to our diagnostic capabilities, providing the foundation for life-altering cardiac interventions and treatments.
